This report discusses the design and implementation of an OFDM modem for a simplex communication
between two PCs over a frequency selective channel. First a brief introduction is
provided by explaining the backrground and the specification of the project. Then the report

1. INTRODUCTION

The Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter (UART) controller is the key component of the serial communications subsystem of a computer. The UART takes bytes of data and transmits the individual bits in a sequential fashion. At the destination, a second UART re-assembles the bits into complete bytes. Abstract:
OFDM is a multi-carrier system where data bits are encoded to multiple sub-carriers and sent simultaneously in time. The result is an optimum usage of bandwidth. A set of orthogonal sub-carriers together forms an OFDM symbol. To avoid ISI due to multi-path, successive OFDM symbols are separated by guard band. This makes the OFDM system resistant to multi-path effects.
