GSM BASED AUTOMATIC TRAIN INFORMATION
INTRODUCTION
India has the largest rail network in the world.Daily more than 15 million people travel by trains. However the present system of long distance railway travel is flawed in many ways. The passengers traveling in these trains have to face many problems.some of these problems include:
The people travelling in the trains have no idea about the stations to come. Each city is unique in its own sense and has its own speciality..People travel the length and breadth of the country and still remain unaware about the cities they are crossing.
They don’t know on which platform the train is going to stand.
There is no system to make the passengers aware about any emergency annoncements.,unexpected events or accidents.
The passengers waiting for their trains to come have to call the railway enquiry system to know the running train status. It becomes quite difficult for the railways to handle such large volume of enquries.
Hence being Electronics engineering students it becomes our responsibility to come up with such an idea to eradicate these flaws. We have come with the idea of GSM based automatic train information which cover s up these shortcomings.
TECHNOLOGY
RF Transmission:
We will be using ASK (Amplitude Shift Keying) based transmitter/receiver pair operating at 433 MHz. The transmitter module accepts serial data at a maximum of 9600 baud rate. It can be directly interfaced with a microcontroller or can be used in remote control applications with the help of encoder/decoder ICs. The encoder IC takes in parallel data which is to be transmitted, packages it into serial format and then transmits it with the help of the RF transmitter module. At the receiver end the decoder IC receives the signal via the RF receiver module, decodes the serial data and reproduces the original data in the parallel format.
GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications):
GSM is the most popular standard for mobile telephony systems in the world. It is controlled by command signals given by microcontroller via serial interfacing.GSM differs from its predecessor technologies in that both signaling and speech channels are digital, and thus GSM is considered a second generation (2G) mobile phone system. This also facilitates the wide-spread implementation of data communication applications into the system.
SMS (Short Message Service) :
SMS is the text communication service component of phone or mobile communication systems, using standardized communications protocols that allow the exchange of short text messages between fixed line or mobile phone devices. SMS text messaging is the most widely used data application in the world, with 2.4 billion active users, or 74% of all mobile phone subscribers. The term SMS is used as a synonym for all types of short text messaging, as well as the user activity itself, in many parts of the world.
