The matter passed to the NGT, which gave a clean chit to the company on the basis of the report of the Committee of Experts. The committee was appointed by NGT composed of two professors from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras and member secretaries of CPCB and TNPCB. On July 15 this year, the NGT order said: "... this report does not indicate that the appellant company (Sterlite) is a pollutant or a prudent polluter or otherwise. In the sampling of batteries or in the monitoring Of ambient air quality, it was not found that the industry was emitting SO2 gas or substances that were in violation of established standards. Since the recurring company is neither an existing pollutant nor a threat of future pollution (which does not Standards) and giving rise to health risks, we see no reason to amend our provisional order dated May 31, 2013. " As for the 25 directions given in the report, Ramnath said that seven of them belong not only to Sterlite, but also to other industries in Tuticorin, six other directions are related to training of people in quality that is ongoing and the Rest would be done in the coming months.

These include relocating the air quality monitor system, connecting it to TNPCB's and creating green belts in a few areas. There are misconceptions about Sterlite. For example, there is a misconception that Sterlite discharges wastewater into the sea, while the fact is that this is the only copper smelter in the world that is zero discharge, says Ramnath. Once in a week the factory doors are open for the general public to visit the plant, says Ramnath. But anti-Sterlite protesters do not seem to be convinced. Similarly, the TNPCB, which has now transferred to the Supreme Court against the NGT order stating that the Court has no power to approve any Order, considering that the Board itself has an Appeals Board. But Sterlite contended that the Board had established the Board of Appeals after the company moved to NGT.
