Introduction
The present technical description intended to study the principal, operation and design of tank quantum range finding sight T.P.D.K.-1.The full form of T.P.D.K.-1 is Telescopic Periscopic Device because it work as telescope as well as a periscope it is also called L.R.F. (Laser Range Finder). It is main heart of battle tank T-72 called “AJEYA”
T.P.D.K.-1 is designed for operation at temperature ranging from -30° c to +50° c and relative air humidity of up to 98%.
It is mainly used for:
• Guiding guns and coupled machine guns on aim.
• Ranging of moving and stationary targets, when the tank is stationary or set in motion.
• For delivery of fire from the gun or the machine gun coupled with it.
• Its maximum range finding 4000 meter i.e. 4 KM.
• It is used in tank T-72 (AJEYA)
The main parts of the quantum range finding sight i.e.TPDK-1 are as follows-
• -Block D
• -Range input unit
• -Power supply block
• -Range measuring unit
• Electro block unit
• -Laser
• -Shot permit contacts
• -Range finder transreceiver
• -Range finder
• -Hand automotive
• -Stabilizer
• -Mechanism for range correction input when the tank is in motion
RANGE MEASURING UNIT OF TANK T-72
PRINCIPLE
The principle of RMU is based on the Time Interval Counter. The time interval dt between the moment the laser starts radiating and the moment light pulse reflected from the target by the time interval counter.
The time interval comprises reference frequency oscillator (15Mhz) and an electric pulse counter of this oscillator. The pulse counter is automatically switched on at the moment the laser starts radiating and switched off at the moment signal reflected from the target is received.
The range measured by range finder is directly proportional to the quantity of counted pulses and is determined by following formula:
Where
R=Range measured
V=velocity of light
N=The quantity of pulses counted by the counter during the period of time the light pulse travels to the target and back
T=the period of oscillations of the reference frequency oscillator.
For the measurement of frequency:-
Using the formula –
(speed = distance/time)
c=D/t
If D’ be the distance between the tank and the target.
Then, total distance will be 2D’
And c be the speed of light whose value is equal to 3*10^8 m/s.
Now , using the above value to measure the value of frequency required.
c=D/t
3*10^8 = 2D’/t ……………..Eq.(i)
if t=nT
where, n= no. of count pulses
T=total time
If n=D’/10
That means 1pulse=10m
Hence, in Eq.(i) 2D’
3*10^8 =
T(D’/10)
therefore,
20
3*10^8 =
T
As we know that 1/T=f
Hence, f= (3*10^8) / 20
