The Telematics Development Center (C-DOT) is a telecommunications technology development center owned by the Indian government. It was established in 1984 with the initial mandate to design and develop digital exchanges. C-DOT has expanded to develop intelligent computing applications. It has offices in Delhi, Bangalore and Kolkata. It is one of the 2 Indian government organizations that have been evaluated at maturity level 5 of CMMI-DEV v1.3, being Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) Software Technology Center. Recently, in February 2014, United Telecoms Limited the CDOT technology license had won the BBNL GPON order at a value of about Rs 1000 Cr. This is the biggest win of any CDOT partner in global competitive bidding in recent years. For the same project National Optical Fiber Network C-DOT won the NMS tender.
The Center for Telematics Development (C-DOT) is the government's telecommunications technology development center, established in August 1984 as an autonomous agency. It was invested with full authority and full flexibility to develop state-of-the-art telecommunication technology to meet the needs of India's telecommunication network. The key objective was to build a center of excellence in the area of telecommunications technology. C-DOT DSS MAX is a universal digital switch that can be configured for different applications such as local, transit or integrated local and transit switch. High load and traffic handling capacity up to 8,00,000 BHCAs with 40,000 line termination capacity as Local Exchange or 15,000 trunks as Trunk Automatic Exchange, the C-DOT DSS family is ideally located to meet the different requirements of any integrated digital network .
The C-DOT DSS MAX design has provided a family concept. The advantages of the family concept are standardized components, hardware compatibility, documentation, training, installation and field support for all products and minimization of spare parts inventory. In fact, this modular design has been consciously achieved using appropriate hardware, software and equipment practices. The equipment practices provide modular packaging. Common cards and advanced components have been used in the system hardware in order to reduce the number and type of cards. Standard boards, racks, frames, cabinets and distribution frames are used to facilitate the growth of the flexible system. Interconnect technology has been standardized at all levels of equipment packaging. All these features, along with a robust design, make C-DOT DSS MAX easy to maintain and highly reliable. Another important feature of the design is the provision of local and centralized operation and maintenance. Beginning with local operation and maintenance, with the installation of similar digital switches in the network, centralized operation and maintenance will provide maintenance and management services in a very economical way. All these services are provided through a simple interactive human-machine interface.
