Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (abbreviated BSNL) is a state-owned Indian telecommunications company based in New Delhi. It was constituted on September 15, 2000 and assumed control of the telecommunications services and the network management of the former departments of telecommunications services (DTS) and Telecom Operations (DTO) of the Central Government, with effect from 1 October 2000,. It is the largest provider of fixed telephony and broadband services with over 60% market share and India's fifth largest mobile provider. However, in recent years the company's revenue and market share have plummeted in large losses due to intense competition in the Indian telecommunications sector. BSNL is the oldest communications service provider in India and had a customer base of 93.29 million as of June 2015. It has footprints throughout India except Mumbai and New Delhi which are managed by Mahanagar Telephone Nigam MTNL).
Bsnl Mobile is the leading provider of cellular GSM mobile services under the Cellone brand. BSNL provides a complete solution for telecommunication services for enterprise customers, including MPLS, P2P and Internet lines. It provides fixed and fixed services using CDMA technology and its extensive fiber optic network. BSNL provides Internet access services via dial-up connection such as prepaid, NetOne as Postpaid and DataOne as BSNL Broadband.
BSNL offers value-added services such as free telephone service (FPH), India prepaid calling card, account card (ACC), virtual private network (VPN), telephoto, Premium Rate (PRM), Universal Access number (UAN). BSNL also offers IPTV that allows customers to watch TV over the Internet and Voice and Video over Internet Protocol (VVoIP). In 2007, BSNL announced plans to provide 5 million broadband connectivity and secured 80% of the Indian Government's INR 25 trillion rural telephony project. On March 20, 2009, BSNL launched blackberry services across India. BSNL paid Rs. 101.87 billion for the 3G spectrum in 2010. As of 2011, BSNL offers coverage in more than 800 cities across India. BSNL launched in 2012 a 3G wireless pocket router called Winknet Mf50. BSNL 3G provides the HSPA + service with the highest downlink rate of 21.1 Mbit / s and the uplink of 5.76 Mbit / s.
