Midori was the code name for a managed code operating system developed by Microsoft with the joint effort of Microsoft Research. It is reported to be a potential commercial deployment of the Singularity operating system, a research project initiated in 2003 to build a highly reliable operating system in which kernel, device drivers and applications are written in managed code. It was designed for concurrency and could run a distributed program across multiple nodes at once. He also introduced a security model that sandbox applications to increase security. Microsoft had mapped several possible migration paths from Windows to Midori. The operating system was interrupted sometime in 2015, although many of its concepts were shot in other Microsoft projects.
History
The Midori code name was first discovered through the PowerPoint presentation CHESS: A systematic test tool for concurrent software. A new reference to Midori was found in a presentation shown during the OOPSLA 2012 conference in October 2012.
