Face detection is one of the most challenging problems in image processing. In this work a new face detection system is presented and a new approach is proposed using the Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) colour model and the Saturation and Value (HSV) colour model. The algorithm uses fuzzy classifier along with the HSV colour model to quickly locate the faces in the image. The fuzzy classifier basically examines small windows of an image to detect the presence of faces in that window and the HSV colour model detects the skin in the image. The algorithm is characterized by its simplicity and its computational requirements of low cost. The method shows that our system has comparable performance in terms of detection rates and false positive rates.
