The acoustics of a room or building have a direct impact on the happiness, and well-being of its occupants. Any unwanted sound in a room is noise and should be removed. The acoustic experts investigate the sound paths so as to understand the sources of sound and modes of transmission. We will come across two types of sound paths, the structure-borne and airborne. The Airborne sound gets transmitted into the air and reaches our ears. Some examples are music or voices coming from nearby rooms or from passing traffic. Structure-borne sound, travels through solid building materials and some good examples are plumbing, door slams, footsteps etc.

Controlling airborne sound
Acoustical experts build lightweight steel partition walls and add sound absorbing insulation made of fiberglass to the wall and ceiling cavities. Windows and doors are sealed properly as Sound energy always finds holes and will follow the path of least resistance. Acoustically engineered gypsum board is used to act as a resilient channel.
