How to establish the temperature of a baseplate os a saddle apprx 150mm from vessel with a core body temp of minus 45 deg C. No insulation applied to saddle apart from top 70mm.

Saddles have the vital role of supporting the pressure vessel and maintaining its stability, must be designed in such a way that the vessel can be charged and the internal pressure of the vessel due to the liquid contained in the vessel. ANSYS creates a model of horizontal pressure vessel and saddle stand. Efforts are calculated using the mathematical approach and ANSYS software. The analysis reveals the high voltage zone located in the connecting part of the pressure vessel and the support of the chair due to the operating conditions.


Saddle stands are commonly used to support horizontal pressure vessels. A pressure vessel is a closed cylindrical vessel, widely used in the process industry, power, oil and gas industries, and also for the storage of fluid or gaseous products. The pressure vessels are subjected to pressure loading, ie at an internal or external operating pressure different from the ambient pressure. Pressure vessels are horizontal or vertical type. For the horizontal vessel, the seat support system plays an important role in the performance of the equipment. An appropriate saddle support system improves safety and facilitates operation of the pressure vessel under higher pressure conditions which ultimately leads to greater efficiency. Optimized design parameters reduce the cost of the material.

In general, the horizontal cylindrical pressure vessels are supported by two symmetrically placed saddle supports which cause stresses in the pressure vessel in addition to the stresses generated by the internal pressure in the vessel. More than two supports would result in a static indetermination and would cause difficulty in predicting the distribution of the load in the case of foundation settlement. One saddle is attached to the foundation, while the other saddle is free to move axially. This incorporates an element of axial flexibility and avoids induced stresses due to the overall temperature variation. The presence of supports has two different effects on the container. First, it interferes with the normal expansion of the vessel due to internal pressure or temperature change; Second, the concentrated support reaction induces highly localized stresses in the support region. A rigid support will result in a higher stress concentration compared to a flexible tension. The main cause of stress concentration is the abrupt transition of the structural rigidity between the support and the vessel. The saddle structure itself is emphasized, since all forces acting on the vessel are transferred to the support.
