Transmission lines are the important factor of the energy system. The transmission and distribution lines have a good contribution in the generating unit and in the consumers to obtain the continuity of the electrical supply. In order to economically transfer high power between the systems and from the control generation field, high voltage (HV) and extra high voltage (EHV) airborne transmission systems are being used. The transmission lines also perform the interconnection in operation for the bidirectional power flow. Transmission lines operate over hundreds of kilometers to provide electricity to consumers. It is a requirement for industries to detect and locate faults in the power system as soon as possible. "Fault Detection and Automatic Line Distribution System with GSM Module" is an automation technique used for the detection of faults in the transmission line and the automatic distribution of energy. The importance of undetectable faults is that they pose a serious danger to public safety as well as a risk of arcing fire. A high impedance fault that is not detected by conventional overcurrent protection, such as fuses and overcurrent relays. It is very useful in technology to provide many applications such as home, industry at large application levels. Nowadays, the electrical power system and the advance devices has become a very complicated system due to the restructuring and penetration of distributed generation and storage. In this system the automation link is possible between the detection and the solution of the problem in a minimum time.


The detection of faults in line is realized by the automation. The automation of the system has become the demand of the day. In fact, most of the system is impossible to control by the human being. As fault analysis became important requirements of the electrical power system to be more precise. The need for automatic fault elimination became a necessity. There are combinations of a circuit breaker and a relay protection system in a typical fault-clearing system. The main parts in the protection system are wiring, transducers, auxiliary power supply, switches, circuit breakers, relays and switch operation coil. The above faults are automatically cleared by electromagnetic relays. The electrical quantity, which is voltage or current, was transformed into a mechanical force that actuated the relay when a preset threshold was exceeded. But now days solid state relays are developed so that the operation can be performed easily and accurately. Power devices act as imperfect loads, generating a distorted waveform containing harmonics and waveform interference component. These harmonics can lead to problems ranging from interference from telephone transmission to the degradation of conductors and insulating material in devices and transformers. Therefore, it is important to investigate the total effect of these harmonic effects. The addition of all harmonic components in a device is known as total harmonic distortion (THD).
