Phatik, his younger brother Makhan and his mother, that was his family. His father had died a long time ago and it was his mother who raised them. Somewhere along the way, the mother began to favor Makhan and poor Phatik was finally ignored or feared. Phatik had to seek love and consideration out of his divided house. It was during this time of separation that the uncle of Phatik made an unexpected visit. Having heard from his sister, this uncle agreed to take Phatik to his home in Calcutta.
This story can be fully understood by those who have a younger brother or a younger sister. In addition, this story can be better understood by anyone who is the compatriot of Tagor. In India, even in the 21st century, parents express different types of love for their children with different intensity. The first child is the most beloved for a time, but when the second child is born, the first child becomes "old" and is forgotten. Parents expect the maturity of an adult from a three-year-old child because he is 'old'. This story could not have been a tragedy if Phatik's mother had not been prejudiced.
