Ferrocement is a building material consisting of wire meshes and cement mortar. The applications of ferrocement in the construction are vast due to the own low weight, the lack of qualified workers, no need of the frame etc. It was developed by PLNervi, an Italian architect in 1940. The quality of the works of ferrocement Is ensured because the components are manufactured in the installation of machinery and the execution time on the job site is less. The cost of maintenance is low. This material has come to be of widespread use only in construction in the last two decades.
Ferrocemento is resource efficient because it uses a minimum of reinforcing bars and concrete to produce "thin layer" structures. The resulting curved members are somewhat similar to trees and plants. This is the opposite of straight concrete walls that depend on massive thickness to gain strength (and cost more money). One of the best places to learn about ferrocement is Steve Kornher Flying Concrete website. Steve has done his best to provide many photos and detailed information about ferrocement.
