The clutch is one of the main components in automobiles. The power of the engine transmitted to the system through the clutch. Failure of such a critical component during service may block the entire application. The finite element analysis provides a means for non-destructive analysis, which is used to analyze the plate driven by the clutch. The results of the FEA are accurate and, therefore, are used worldwide for design and research engineers. In this paper the actuated plate used in Leyland Viking Vehicle is analyzed. The driven main board normally failed during operation due to cyclic loading. This project explains the structural design analysis of the clutch plate and finds the fault region by performing a static analysis on the ANSYS software. The 3D model of the clutch plate was written using the Solid Works software and the plate analysis was performed for static loading conditions. This project finds the maximum voltage in the fault region during operation.
The power developed within the engine cylinder is ultimately intended to rotate the wheels so that the motor vehicle can move on the road. The reciprocating movement of the piston rotates a crankshaft that rotates the flywheel through the connecting rod. The circular motion of the crankshaft is now transmitted to the rear wheels. It is transmitted through the clutch, gearbox, universal joints, propeller shaft or drive shaft, differential and axles that extend to the wheels. The application of engine power to the drive wheels through all these parts is called power transmission. The power transmission system is usually the same in all modern passenger cars and trucks, but their arrangement may vary according to the drive method and the type of transmission units. The power transmission of an automobile. The movement of the crankshaft is transmitted through the clutch to the gearbox or transmission, which consists of a set of gears to change the speed. From the gearbox, the motion is transmitted to the propeller shaft through the universal joint and then to the differential through another universal joint. The differential provides relative movement to the two rear wheels while the vehicle is turning. Thus, the power developed in the engine is transmitted to the rear wheels through a transmission system. The clutch is a device used in the transmission system of a motor vehicle for engaging and disengaging the engine to the transmission. This device is used to transmit energy at the user's will.
