INTRODUCTION
Internship training is a part in the Post Graduation Level.So the university gave us an opportunity to undergo a summer training program during the end of 3rd trimester. During the training program we have learnt about the company and also the practical knowledge about the company workings.
I got this opportunity to have the practical knowledge about the factory and office environment work.
OBJECTIVES
• To learn about the function of the industry through practical experience.
• To know about the production process of the product used by the consumer.
• To know about the office's functions differ from the theory aspect and how it is linked.
• To understand management policies of the company.

Indian refractory makers are the proven and reliable suppliers of Refractories world- wide for the metallurgical industries, cement plants, glass factories and other user industries.
Indian Refractory Maker Association (IRMA) is the association of Indian refractory makers committed to provide tailor- made refractory products and services suited for the needs of the customers.
IRMA is the national body for Indian companies designing, engineering, installing and maintaining refractories for cost effective and value added operations in manufacture of steel, non- ferrous metals, cement, glass, ceramic products, calcinations of lime and other non- metallic minerals, chemicals and fertilizers, boilers and incinerators, and a host of other high- temperature applications.
The association will be happy to furnish free- of – charge readily available information about member companies and an outline of the major activities of the association.
Currently more than 70 manufacturing companies in India are members of the IRMA. There also 19 units as associate members producing equipment, accessories, instruments and raw materials used in refractory manufacture. The member companies produce firebricks, high alumina, alumina carbon, silica, basic, zircon, zircon mullite, silicon carbide refractories as also speciality products like monolithic, slide gate plates, continuous casting refractories etc.
HISTORY OF BSCL
The History of Burn Standard Co Limited dates back to 1781, when Burn & Co. was established on the West side of River Hooghly in Calcutta. Thereafter, the company diversified its activities in several areas covering Heavy Steel Fabrication, Large Turnkey Projects, Oil Processing Platforms, Steel and Manganese Castings, Refractories and other related products. The Company now possesses over 10 (ten) manufacturing units spread over the four states of West Bengal, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu in India.
The strength of over two centuries engineering expertise of erstwhile Burn Standard & Company Ltd, and the Indian Standard Wagon Co Ltd, were merged in 1976 to form Burn Standard Company Limited, a Govt. of India undertaking. Burn Standard (BSCL) today is a leader in the Indian Heavy Engineering Industry with versatile production facilities and extensive engineering capabilities with 3 (three) Engineering manufacturing units at Howrah, Burnpur and Jellingham, and 8 (eight) Refractory manufacturing unit all over India.
The Howrah & Burnpur units are engaged in the manufacture of Railway Rolling Stocks and Components. The Steel Foundry Unit is located within its Howrah Unit and two Forge Shops are located at Howrah & Burnpur. The Jellingham unit is fully devoted for fabrication, transportation, installation and commissioning of Well Head Platforms.
PROFILE OF BSCL
BURN STANDARD COMPANY LIMITED is a government company under the administrative jurisdiction of the department of Heavy Industries, Ministry of Heavy Industries and public enterprises, Government of India.
The company (BSCL) was incorporated as a PSU (Public Sector Undertaking) in West Bengal as BURN STANDARD COMPANY LIMITED on 01.12.1976. The management of the company was taken over by the Govt. Of India on December, 1973 and the company was subsequently nationalised April, 1975. BSCL became a wholly owned subsidiary of the holding company Bharat Bhari Udyog Nigam Ltd., (BBUNL) upon its formation in September, 1986. BSCL was referred to BIFR (Board Of Industrial & Financial Reconstruction) in November, 1994.
BSCL is one of the largest Wagon manufacturers in India with an installed capacity of 8661 four wheeler units, it is backed by composite infrastructure for manufacture of special wagons for transporting Alumina powder, Cement, Fertilizer, Milk (in Stainless steel tank) etc., besides tank wagon for transportation of liquid petroleum gas. It also has a steel foundry for manufacture of cost steel bogies for wagon, couplers for wagons etc., BSCL delivers wide range of other engineering and refractory products & services viz., Tram cars, Bridge grinders, Steel plant equipments, Mining equipments, Misc.Forged, Pressed, Cast, Machined & Fabricated items, CMS points & Crossings, Steel sleepers, Rolling stocks for steel plants, wide range of Refractory Bricks and Ramming mass for steel, Cement and Glass Industries.
The manufacturing units for wagon are located at Howrah and Burnpur in Burdwan district in West Bengal & Refractory units at Salem in Tamilnadu and the registered office of the company is located at Kolkata in West Bengal.
The company also has seven refractory units (non- operational) located in the state of West Bengal, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh and one off shore platform fabrication yard (non- operational) at Mindapore, West Bengal.
BSCL possesses ISO 9002 certification manufacturing facilities for Wagons, Foundry, Refractory items manufacturing.
BSCL has been referred to the Board Of Industrial & Financial Reconstruction and the rehabilitation package is under consideration.
BSCL has seven non- operating refractory units and one non- operating off- shore platform fabrication yard at Jellingham. All employees of these units have been separated through VRS/ Transfer.

In India the clients of BSCL include The Indian Railways, SAIL (Steel Authority of India Limited), NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation), NALCO (National Aluminium Company Limited), RSEB (Rajasthan State Electricity Board) etc., amongst others, and major steel makers of the country. BSCL’s refractory products are exported to various countries of the world in Middle East & Africa.
