ABSTRACT
The study is undertaken in the company named Rane (madras) Limited under the title of EFFECTIVENESS OF JOB SKILL IMPROVEMENT.Job skills may be understood by how they expressing their skills at present and in future and how to improve their skills. It is a process of collecting, Analyzing and evaluating data relative to job skill and results.
The main objective of the study is improving skills of the employees and to identify their level of skills.In this study nearly 100 samples have been used and the data were collected through questionnaire and personal interview and statically tools such as percentage method, chi-square test were used for analysis.
In this study we know how much job skill of employee has improved after the programme.The response given by the employees are analyzed and interpret using different types of statistical tools such as percentage analysis, chi-square, correlation, co-efficient method.
From the analysis some general findings are arise and that are more related with the framed objectives for this study. According to the findings the suggestion and recommendations are given and the conclusions are also based on the findings which will be more helpful for the organization.
RESEARCH BACKGROUND:
Background research refers to accessing the collection of previously published and unpublished information about a site, region.
The data was collected from already published sources such as pamphlets, annual reports, various journals and internal records. The data collection includes:
• Collection of required data from annual report of The Rane (madras) limited.
• Reference from textbooks and journals relating to the manufacturing industry in India.
Annual reports of the company.
COMPANY PROFILE
INTRODUCTION

Rane Madras ltd, Puducherry is a flagship company of Rane Group, RML was established in 1996 in technical collaboration with m/s TRW, UK. The factory has a total land area of 73000 sq meters and built up area of 4025 sq meters. The plant started with supplying manual rack and pinion to Maruthi Suzuki. The plant currently manufactures manual rack and pinion steering gear, steering suspension and linkage products for passenger car application.
Major customers include maruthi Suzuki, Tata Motors, Fiat & Ford, Ashok Leyland, Eicher, Hero Honda, Renault, Toyota, TVS motors, Mahindra, Yamaha, Swaraj Masda, Hyundai, Fiat & Honda. The major overseas customers are CNH UK, DEUTZ Germany, Electro motive USA, HATZ Germany, YAMAHA Asia and TRW Europe and USA.
Major suppliers are Hi Tech Engineering puducherry, STM Engineering Puducherry, LG forgoing Chennai, Electro plate Chennai. The plant also supplies inner ball joints and outer ball joints for power rack and pinion application to Rane TRW steering systems. Rane enjoys 100% share of the business in ford, GM, TATA motors and 40% of share of Hyundai.
The plant entered into exports in 2003 by supplying steering gear for M/S SAIPA- a joint venture between KIA motors Korea and the Iranian government. The exports destinations are USA, Mexico, Germany, UK, Italy, Bularia, Jordan, Kenya, Indonesia and Singapore.
