Embedded Systems is the evolution or further development of computing system.
An embedded system is a combination of computer circuitry and software that is built into a product for purposes such as control, monitoring and communication without human intervention.
Embedded systems
One of the first recognizably modern embedded systems was the Apollo Guidance Computer, developed by Charles Stark Draper at the MIT Instrumentation Laboratory.
Special microprocessors are used in embedded systems to reduce cost for mass production. These microprocessors have simplified architecture, low performance and low cost comparing to general-purpose processors.

Why the name MICROCONTROLLER?
Basically used for control actions. It is used to control the operation of machine using fixed program that is stored in ROM/EPROM and that does not change over the life time.

Power Supply
A regulated power supply is the power supply with rectification, filtering and regulation being done on the AC mains to get a regulated power supply for microcontroller and for the other devices being interfaced in it.
A power supply can be broken down in to series of blocks, each block performs a particular function.

LED
A light-emitting diode is semiconductor light source.
The first practical LED was invented by Nick Holon yak, Jr., in 1962 while he was at General Electric Company.
Relay
 Relays are special switches designed to allow a small circuit to control a larger circuit. These devices use a solenoid to control a heavy-duty switch. The wiring for the solenoid may require only 0.5 amps to activate, while the switch it controls carries 10 to 30 amps.
Relay
Connect the control device to the two solenoid pins of the relay. Supplying a small 12-volt voltage to these two pins will turn the relay switch on or off.
Locate the other three pins. These pins are a SPDT switch.
PIR Sensor
The PIR Sensor Switch can detect the Infrared Rays released by human body.

How PIR Sensor Works:
The PIR sensor itself has two slots in it.
When the sensor is idle, both slots detect the same amount of IR.
When a warm body like a human or animal passes in the field vision of sensor, the sensor detects a sudden change in infrared energy then senor is activated and voltage signals will be given to microcontroller

The "platform" is where the C compiler runs -- a laptop running Linux or a desktop running Windows.
The "target" is where the executable code generated by the C compiler will run -- the CPU in the embedded system, often without any underlying operating system.
Keil Software
Keil compiler is a software used where the machine language code is written and compiled. After compilation, the machine source code is converted into hex code which is to be dumped into the microcontroller for further processing.

No separate wiring is required hence no additional installation cost.
