• Level crossing in India can be divided into two categories.
• Manned
• Un-Manned
• A manually operated level crossing in India
• Manned crossing:-
• >Manual level crossings are those which are guarded by a gatemen as employee of Railways.
• >Due to vastness of Indian railways , that spans over 6,909 stations over a total route length of more than 63,327 kilometres , it is impossible to man all crossings.
• >Besides element of human error is always involved.
• Need for unmanned crossings
• Better utilization of human resources.
• Elimination of human error.
• Accident risk at unmanned level is also solved.
