Two of the existing reliable transport layer protocols for wireless sensor networks- Distributed TCP Caching and Event To Sink Reliable Transport protocol, does not score well in terms of efficiency. Considering the total number of retransmissions as a QoS parameter for efficiency, our protocol k-RTP ( k Hop Reliable Transport Protocol ) is promising. many technical challenges are faced by the multimedia networking as real-time data has to be sent over non-real time network. The need to provide , high data rate over limited network bandwidth and unpredictable availability of network bandwidth are the other problems. Many are designed for specific application and hence the factor of reusability is not present in them. Also , the receiver has a limited buffer for any multimedia application,hence , the buffer can be overflowed if the data arriv ....etc
