This article describes the design and principle of operation, and the electromechanical phenomena of a single phase induction motor.The motor has a primary part which is moving and a stationary secondary part which does not have any winding. AC or DC supply can be used to operate the motor. A capacitor connected in series with the coil must be used when the motor is fed from the AC source.
