Goals
Design a sustainable automobile powered by alternate fuel that does not detrimentally impact the environment

Propose an infrastructure that is both practical and reliable and would support a fleet of our alternate fuel cars

Pumped hydroelectric and compressed air energy storage (CAES) are currently economic for utilities when relying on natural geologic formations and the cheapest, most abundant substances (i.e. elevated water and compressed air). In these situations the cost of energy storage capacity can be very low (<$5/kWh1) Unfortunately the scale and location-specific nature of energy storage in natural formations is likely to render it of limited benefit to small scale distributed renewables. The idea of compressed-air energy storage isn’t new, but cheap and plentiful energy has precluded much research. The low-tech explanation goes like this: excess energy from a power plant is used to run air compressors, which pump air into an underground cave, where it is stored under pressure. When released, the air powers a turbine, creating electricity. The initial energy used to force the air underground can come from wind, solar, nuclear or any source.

What is Compressed Air Energy Storage

CAES refers to the compression of air to be used later as energy source.It can be stored during periods of low energy demand (off-peak),inorder to meet periods of higher demand (peak-load).
The first CAES systems were
constructed by Victor Popp in 19-th
centuary That was in 1870.
