The idea of compressed-air energy storage isn’t new, but cheap and plentiful energy has precluded much research. The low-tech explanation goes like this: excess energy from a power plant is used to run air compressors, which pump air into an underground cave, where it is stored under pressure. What is Compressed Air Energy Storage

CAES refers to the compression of air to be used later as energy source.It can be stored during periods of low energy demand (off-peak),inorder to meet periods of higher demand (peak-load).
