Solar Tracker And Energy System
INTRODUCTION
This project was given to keep the face of the solar panel perpendicular to the sun rays so as to generate maximum energy, storing it into battery and convert the DC to AC Voltage. the panel was therefore required to track the sun throughout the day keeping the face locked to the sun with a calculated amount of disorientation.
This first objective was achieved by using a DC motor specifically selected after a little research that was suitable for required torque for tracking, using Pic 18F452 microcontroller and LDR sensors the sun was tracked ensuring optimal output. We have made a Single Axis Solar Tracker.
The second objective was to store the energy ,it was done by using Charge Controller (Voltage Limiter) to charge the 12v battery
The third objective was to apply GSM to control the devices i.e to on/off or to check the status(which device is on/off or all on/off) through mobile sms that equipments/appliances was consuming power produced from the solar panel.
This objective was achieved by using the Atmel 89S52 microcontroller and a mobile T290i (Sony Ericson) via serial communication between them. The microcontroller was the master in the entire circuit. This project is about designing and implementing a Solar Tracking system. This system will be used to track and follow the sun during the daytime in order to increase the power which is absorbs by the panels. Since our country is under energy crisis due to shortage of electricity of which main reason is shortage of water and its storage(dams) so we have to find out alternatives of energy sources. The vast and complex system by which energy is produced and used is increasingly at the heart of environment and economic challenges facing the world.
Our country is heavily dependent on highly polluting fossil fuels, particularly coal and oil. Most of which has to be imported. thus reducing the use of fossil fuels is essential for Pakistan’s long term economic and long term well being.
In 1990’s environment concerns along with the sharply rising fuel prices are responsible for an increased interest in other energy resources. Pakistan being blessed with the abundance of sunlight and location in the temperature zone, becomes an ideal choice for the utilization of solar energy. solar energy having a relatively high initial cost, can however, prove to be an inexpensive source of energy for a long time to come.
Home Automation through phone calls and mobile SMS is one of the best examples of embedded systems in our normal life. There are not many companies in Pakistan who are providing home automation through phone call or through mobile SMS for normal home users. Keeping these facts in mind we have decided to apply GSM to control Home appliances which are consuming energy from our Solar Tracking Energy System.
We will complete our discussion in two phases
Phase I-Solar tracker
Phase II-GSM Implementation
