Wavell Plan - 1945
*On 14th June 1945 Viceroy Lord Wavell formulated a plan popularly called Wavell plan. The essence of the plan was the formation of a new executive council at the centre in which all membes except viceroy and commander in chief were Indians.
*The plan proposed the formation of an interim govt, before proceeding for the work of framing constitution.
Cabinet Mission 1946
*On 15th March, 1946 Clement Atlee (PM of England) made a historic announcement in which the rights to self determination and the framing of a constitution for India were conceded.
*Pethick Lawrence was the Chairman of Cabinet Mission
*Pethick Lawrence, A.V. Alexander, Stafford Cripps were the members of the Cabinet Mission.
*First interim government in India was appointed under the leadership of Nehru on September 2, 1946

Features of Cabinet Mission
*Proposed the formation of a Union of India comprising both the British India and the princely states.
*Proposed setting up an interim government, which would remain in office till a new government was elected on the basis of the, new constitution framed by Constituent Assembly.
*Rejection of the demand for a full fledged Pakistan.
Royal Indian Naval Mutiny - 1946
*Royal Indian Navy Mutiny started on 18th February 1946 in Naval Ship Talwar. The Indian sailors, complaining of bad food and racial discrimination, hoisted the Congress and League flags on their ships.
*The strike spread to naval bases all over the country. The Hindu and Muslim students and workers also demonstrated their support to the naval mutiny.
*The mutiny spread and found support throughout British India, from Karachi to Culcutta.
*It involved 78 ships 20 shore establishments and 20,000 sailors.
*The most significant factor of this mutiny, was the unification of Hindus and Muslims against the British.
