Use the 8-bit microcontroller to perform the desired task by interconnecting the gas sensor, buzzer and LCD to display. The output of the gas sensor is in analogous form which can be converted into digital form using MCP3201 which is an ADC (analog-to-digital converter). Initially, when there is a leak, the gas sensor detects it and gives voltage related to the amount of gas escaping from the apparatus. We create a set point for the microcontroller so that if the gas sensor gives the output above the setpoint, the controller drives the buzzer as an indication to the user.

This can be used as an application in chemical and hazardous industries where there is a continuing need to monitor gas leaks. By using different types of sensors for each gas we can almost identify leaks for each type of gas. The basic unit uses two operational amplifiers LM358 (IC1), transistor T1 and timer NE555 (IC2), configured in astable mode. The selection of the MQ * sensor is based on the purpose for which the alarm circuit is designed. For the smoke alarm circuit, you will need the MQ2 sensor. Similarly, for the detection of alcohol, the MQ3 sensor is used, while the MQ6 sensor is used to detect LPG cooking gas.
