ZIGBEE BASED ANIMAL TRACKING
DESCRIPTION:

THE AIM OF THE PROJECT IS TO TRACK THE ANIMAL WHICH IS IN THE SPECIFIED RANGE.THIS IS AN OLD TECHNIQUE ALREADY EMPLOYED AND IN USE BUT THE NEW THING ABOUT THIS PROJECT IS USING AN SECURED ,ADVANCED WIRELESS PROTOCOLED DEVICE CALLED ZIGBEE.IT ACTS BOTH AS TRANSMITTER AND RECIEVER.ULTRA LOW POWER DEVICE.WHEN THE ANIMAL IS DETECTED IN THE RANGE IT READS THE ANIMAL ID AND STORES IN DATABASE ALONG WITH TIME.
TECHNOLGY: THE MAIN TECHNOLOGY USED IS ULTRASONIC COMMUNICATION AND THE ELECTRONIC BREAKING SYSTEM.
WHY WE CHOOSED ZIGBEE COMMUNICATION: ZIGBEE IS ONE OF THE NEWEST TECHNOLOGIES ENABLING WIRELESS PERSONAL AREA NETWORKS (WPAN). THIS RELATES TO LOWER COST AND LOWER POWER CONSUMPTION. ULTRA-LOW POWER CONSUMPTION IS A KEY SYSTEM DESIGN ASPECT OF THE ZIGBEE TECHNOLOGY TO ALLOW LONG LIFETIME NON-RECHARGEABLE BATTERY POWERED DEVICES VERSUS RECHARGEABLE DEVICES .WIRELESS NETWORK SOLUTION THAT IS SIMPLE TO DEVELOP AND DEPLOY, LOW DATA RATE APPLICATIONS,ROBUST SECURITY, HIGH DATA RELIABILITY, AND PRODUCT INTEROPERABILITY.
HENCE WE CHOOSE ZIGBEE FOR COMMUNICATION.
WORKING:
THE ANIMAL SIDE CONSISITS OF AN ZIGBEE DEVICE PLACED IN A BELT AND TIED TO THE NECK.THIS ZIGBEE DEVICE HAS AN UNIQUE NUMBER CALLED THE DEVICE ADDRESS PRESENT EACH ZIGBEE WILL IDENTIFY EACH OTHER WITH THE HELP OF THESE DEVICE ADDRESS.
THE USER SIDE CONSISTS OF A MICROCONTROLLER CONNECTED TO ANOTHER ZIGBEE DEVICE WITH A SPECIFIC ADDRESS.THIS ZIGBEE KEEPS SEARCHING FOR ANOTHER ZIGBEE IN (10 METERS RANGE), WHEN IT FINDS ANOTHER ZIGBEE OF THE KNOWN ADDRESS IN SPECIFIED RANGE, IT STORES THE ZIGBEEDEVICE ID, THE NAME OF THE ANIMAL ASSOCIATED WITH THE ID AND THE DETECTED TIME IN THE DATABASE.THIS IS DONE BY USING THE VISUAL BASIC SOFTWARE.THE BUZZER BEEPS ONCE WHEN THE ANIMAL IS DETECTED AND DISPLAYS THE ANIMAL NAME ON THE LCD.
OUR CHALLANGING WORK IN THIS PROJECT:
1. INTERFACING ZIGBEE WITH THE MICROCONTROLLER.
2. WRITE THE PROGRAMME FOR THE MICRCONTROLLER USING EMBEDDED ‘C’ FOR 8051.
3. INTERFACE THE REAL TIME CLOCK WITH MICROCONTROLLER.
4. DESIGN LCD INTERFACE.
FUTURE ENHANCEMENT:
THIS CAN BE ENHANCED IN FUTURE BY ADDING GPS TO KNOW THE EXACT LOCATION OF THE ANIMAL.
THIS CAN ALSO BE ENHANCED IN FUTURE TO TRANSMIT DATA BETWEEN ZIGBEE ATTACHED DEVICES.

INTEL 8051 MICRCONTROLLER.
TWO TABLET SIZED ZIGBEES WITH INBUILT BATTERY AND ANTENNA.
REAL TIME CLOCK.
LCD 16 *2 LINE ALPHA NUMERIC.
5 VOLTS REGULATOR POWER SUPPLY FOR MICRCONTROLLER

INTEL8051 MICRCONTROLLER: THE AT89S52 IS A WIDELY AVAILABLE IN MARKET, COST EFFECTIVE, LOW POWER AND HIGH-PERFORMANCE CMOS 8-BIT MICROCONTROLLER WITH 8K BYTES OF IN-SYSTEM PROGRAMMABLE FLASH MEMORY. THE DEVICE IS MANUFACTURED USING ATMEL’S HIGH-DENSITY NONVOLATILE MEMORY TECHNOLOGY AND IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE INDUSTRY- STANDARD 80C51 INSTRUCTION SET AND PIN OUT.

THE MICROCONTROLLER SENDS THE ANIMAL DTECTED TIME, ID NUMBER AND THE NAME OF THE ANIMAL TO DATABASE.
LCD 16*2 ALPHA NUMERIC: THIS IS INTERFACED WITH THE 8051 MICRCONTROLLER.THE MAIN JOB OF THIS COMPONENT IS TO DISPLAY THE CURRENT STATUES.
LCDS CAN ADD A LOT TO YOUR APPLICATION IN TERMS OF PROVIDING AN USEFUL INTERFACE FOR THE USER, DEBUGGING AN APPLICATION OR JUST GIVING IT A "PROFESSIONAL" LOOK. THE MOST COMMON TYPE OF LCD CONTROLLER IS THE HITACHI 44780 WHICH PROVIDES A RELATIVELY SIMPLE INTERFACE BETWEEN A PROCESSOR AND AN LCD. USING THIS INTERFACE IS OFTEN NOT ATTEMPTED BY INEXPERIENCED DESIGNERS AND PROGRAMMERS BECAUSE IT IS DIFFICULT TO FIND GOOD DOCUMENTATION ON THE INTERFACE, INITIALIZING THE INTERFACE CAN BE A PROBLEM AND THE DISPLAYS THEMSELVES ARE EXPENSIVE. IN OUR PROJECT WE USED TWO-LINE DISPLAY.
VITAL ROLE OF LCD IN ‘ZIGBEE BASED ANIMAL TRACKING’
USED TO DISPLAY THE ANIMAL DETECTED.
BUZZER:
THE BUZZER SUBSYSTEM PRODUCES A 2 KHZ AUDIBLE TONE WHEN POWERED. THE BUZZER WILL SOUND WHEN THE SIGNAL COMING INTO THE DRIVER IS HIGH. IT MUST BE CONNECTED TO A TRANSISTOR, DARLINGTON OR TRANSDUCER DRIVER SUBSYSTEM.
THE BUZZER IS CONNECTED BETWEEN THE SUPPLY RAIL (+V) AND THE INPUT SIGNAL. THIS ACTS AS LOAD ON THE DRIVER. WHEN THE INPUT SIGNAL COMING INTO THE BUZZER SUBSYSTEM IS LOW, A POTENTIAL DIFFERENCE ACROSS THE BUZZER CAUSES CURRENT TO FLOW. IT IS THIS FLOW OF CURRENT THAT CAUSES THE BUZZER TO SOUND.
VITAL ROLE OF BUZZER IN ‘ZIGBEE BASED ANIMAL TRACKING’
THE BUZZER WILL BEEP WHEN THE ANIMAL IS DETECTED.
