Vote of Thanks during the inaugural session of the 7th Regional Conference of ADB/OECD on September 28, 2011 It is my privilege to propose the vote of Thanks for the 7th Regional conference of the ADB/OECD Initiative on Anti Corruption for Asia Pacific commencing today. At the outset, I would like to express my profound gratitude to Her Excellency, the President of India for sparing her valuable time to address the gathering, and for highlighting the issues that we need to deliberate on during the Conference. It is an indication of the importance India attaches to the subject of corruption. Her Excellency has highlighted the need for adopting a multi disciplinary approach to deal with corruption, emphasized the need for systemic reforms, and impressed on the need for improving governance. These will also form the basis of deliberations during the two day conference. I would like to express our sense of obligations to the Hon’ble Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions for his kind guidance for this event, and also in helping us in strengthening various mechanisms of anti corruption framework with the aim to implement the Government’s policy towards ‘zero tolerance against corruption’. We are also extremely grateful to Secretary, Personnel for her constant and meticulous guidance, and in making this conference happen in India, and also in inspiring us to host it successfully. We convey our sincere thanks to the Chairman, Union Public Service Commission, and Central Vigilance Commissioner for their gracious presence today. I thank all the senior functionaries of the Governments for their kind presence today. On behalf of Government of India, we would like to place on record the excellent contributions made by the OECD led by its Deputy Secretary General, and the ADB led by its Vice President by sharing their thoughts on the subject. Our special thanks go to the ADB/OECD Anti Corruption Initiative Secretariat for helping us organize the 7th Regional Conference and 16th Steering Group meeting in India. These events would not have been possible without its constant guidance and help. We also thank the representatives of the Member Countries of the Initiative, representatives of the Observer countries/organizations , members of the Advisory Group and International Organisation for their presence today, and we will be immensely benefited by their input during the conference. I take this opportunity to extend our gratitude to the distinguished panel of speakers, delegates, from India as well as overseas, distinguished participants, and learned guests for participating at the event. I would be failing in my duty if I do not convey my thanks to the print and electronic media for the efforts they are taking for coverage of the event, and for highlighting various anti corruption issues at different fora. Lastly, I thank all the members of the organizing Committee, and all my colleagues who have been involved in this particular exercise for last several months. Without their cooperation and full support, this conference would not have been possible. Thank you all once again, and we look forward to an extremely productive two day discussion.

An ignited mind is the most powerful weapon on the earth, above the earth and under the earth; and this is got through education. Education is the most profitable investment for the near future. A very good afternoon to everyone present here. On behalf of the Kyoto group of the JENESYS Batch 3-2012, I, Hanumitha Radhakrishnan from Pondicherry, deem it a great honour and privilege to stand before you to deliver the vote of thanks. At first, I would like to thank the JICE and Japan government for arranging such a useful programme of cultural exchange. I would also like to thank the Indian government for giving us the opportunity to be the student ambassadors. It’s obviously a life-time cherishable opportunity which cannot be forgotten by any one of us. Japan, as everyone knows, is widely known for its fast technological development, hard working people and culture. Though it had been almost completely devastated, now it stands as one of the most developed nations. Even though years have passed, changes have been made in lifestyle, Japanese culture still remains preserve which is really worth appreciating. The lecture which was giving by the professors of Doshisha University was an interesting and inspiring one. Words are not sufficient to thank the university students and professors for spending their valuable time for a beneficial cause. The interaction with the students was really outstanding. The hospitality provided here is worth appreciating. I hope that many students here will join the university very soon.
