An unmanned level crossing is the universal term for a road; Path; Landing field; Or, any other road crosses a railroad and has no flag or other safety feature to avoid crossing the path of an approaching train. It is the most likely place to be the fatal victim of a collision with them or your vehicle. The momentum of a mass as a moving train is so great that it is practically impossible to stop by mechanical braking at a reasonably safe distance from an object seen on a track and most trains do not stop for level crossings. In India, unmanned level crossings have been such a big problem that a new security initiative was launched in the last year to reduce deaths and accidents. India has 30,348 level crossings, of which 11,563 are unmanned. There are level crossings representing 40% of train accidents and 60% of deaths due to lack of maintenance of crossings.
