In communications and electronic engineering, a transmission line is a specialized cable or other structure designed to conduct an alternating current of radio frequency, ie currents with a frequency high enough to take into account its wave nature. Transmission lines are used for purposes such as connecting radio transmitters and receivers with their antennas, distributing cable television signals, making routing calls between switching telephone centers, computer network connections, and high-speed computer data buses speed.
This article covers the transmission line of two conductors, such as parallel line (ladder line), coaxial cable, tape line and micro-band. Some sources also refer to waveguides, dielectric waveguides, and even optical fibers as transmission lines; however, these lines require different analytical techniques.
