Normal glass panel covered with conductive and a resistive metallic layer
Scratch-resistant layer is placed on top
When touches two layers make contact in that exact spot.Change in the electrical field is noted&the coordinates of the point of contacts are calculated by the computer.Like as a mouse

Capacitive:
A layer stores electrical charge is placed on the glass panel of the monitor.
When touches some of charge is transferred to the user,so charge on capacitive layer decreases.
This decrease is measured in circuits located at each corner of the monitor.
Computer can calculates from the relative differences in charge at each corner
Surface acoustic wave :
Two transducers(electrical device that converts one form of energy into another) are receiving and sending placed along the x and y axes of the monitor's glass plate.Also placed on reflectors.They reflect an electrical signal sent from one transducer to other

Advantages&Disadvantages
Advantages:
Capacitive system transmits almost 90% of the light from the monitor
Capacitive system a much clearer picture than the resistive system.
Surface acoustic wave of wave setup has no metallic layers on the screen so,It can allow 100%light throughput and perfect image clarity
Those systems are not only limited to any touch screen laptop&mobiles,etc...
Navigation is extremely faster,it is more reliable than general laptops

Dis-Advantages
Some people are really finding it difficult to view the items in the small screen of the touch screen laptop.
Touch screen laptop can only understand your handwriting but not of others, so only a single user can use a touch screen laptop for life time.
More screen damages are possible because the input is given from a pen so you need to touch it often. Input rate is also slower when compared to ordinary laptops i.e. input from a keyboard and a mouse is much faster than a pen in touch screen laptop.
Price is the last point to be noted as touch screen laptops are bit costlier than ordinary laptops.
