TOTAL EXPLORATION AND PRODUCTION NIGERIA PORT HARCOURT
ABSTRACT
The SIWES programme is a great opportunity for academic development and diversity in the purse of an academic career. The exposure which it offers is second to none and should be embraced by all who have the privilege.
I joined the oil and gas industry as a Chemical Engineering student for my 6 months of training and during this period, I worked with the Instrument, Metering, Process, Integrity, and Well Performance teams and the experiences were enormous.
The learning experience has been very interesting ranging from interpretation of drawings (PFD and P&ID), analysis of Metering report, Process simulation using PRO II® and HYSYS® to Well Performance simulator PROSPER®.
I was privileged to visit all the OML 58 sites namely Obagi Flow Station, Obite Gas Treatment Centre, Olo Flow Station, Ibewa Cluster and Rumuekpe Metering Station.
My one (1) week site work experience with the Obagi Production team (Control Room), Obite and Ibewa Production team was knowledge packed. During my stay in the Obagi Control Room, we monitored the Oil and Gas production processes, in Obite Control we monitored the Gas treatment process and also joined the head of production and his technicians to work on the Forane Compressor Package. I joined the Instrumentation/ Metering team to calibrate the pressure transmitter on the Fuel Gas Package in Obagi using Hart Communicator and also for the Gas Chromatograph Validation at Obite. I worked with the Integrity engineer for inspection of the Air Vessels in Obagi using the Ultrasonic Gauge. Periodically, I joined the metering engineer to Rumuekpe metering station for Meter Proving of the Oil meters.
Indeed the gap between theory and practice has been bridged and my passion in pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering has tripled.
