The growing demand for energy in the developing world will result in a sustainable increase in the generation of fly ash, which will continue to be a concern in terms of its management. However, the technological advance can be effective in the management of fly ash, as well as its possible use through the zeolites. Zeolites are known to possess many beneficial properties (such as ion exchange property), however, their cost-effective production using fly ash as raw material has not yet been standardized. In view of this, the present study (bibliographic review) was carried out to understand the evolution of the strategies of synthesis of zeolites adopted by different researchers. The literature clearly indicates that the synthesis of zeolite depends on the physicochemical properties of the raw material as well as the reaction mixture. However, it also suggests that the current state of knowledge can be easily used for further advancement of commercial zeolite synthesis processes using fly ash as the primary source of feedstock.

The rapidly growing energy demand in the developing world in general and India in particular, requires that high power generation must be achieved. Although there are different ways of generating energy; Historically, coal-based power generation has been prevalent in India. The thermal power plant plays an important role in meeting the growing energy demand of the population1. Currently, coal-based thermal facilities in India contribute about 65% of the total installed capacity for electricity generation. Indian coals have a very high ash content (25 and 45%) and typically 40% ash coal is widely used in India's power plants. As a consequence, a large amount of fly ash is generated in thermal plants, which causes several problems related to the elimination. With regard to the elimination of fly ash, the use of fly ash for different purposes is currently less than 10% (of what is produced) in India, which is significantly lower than in other countries . The largest area of use of fly ash is the construction industry, which uses approximately 50% of the fly ash generated (due to its proven availability) for various applications such as cement / concrete mix, pozzolan / Blocks, etc.). The other use of fly ash is the filling of low area (17%), roads and embankments (15%), lifting of dams (4%), manufacture of bricks (2%) and zeolite, etc.
