A system for automatically capturing an image of a moving vehicle and recording data parameters, such as date, time, speed operator, location, etc. in the image. A capture window comprising a predetermined range of system distances from the moving vehicle can be set by the operator so that the image of the moving vehicle is captured automatically when it enters the capture window. The distance of the capture window can be entered manually through a keyboard or automatically using the laser speed gun. Autofocus is provided using distance information from the laser speed gun. A database is included to allow the user to search for specified parameters. Data records can be marked for citation issuance. A separate office unit is described for retrieving and sorting data records so that the field units are not occupied with such tasks. The office unit can be connected separately to the license databases to retrieve information for citation issuance.
General work is software development of a system that requires a video scene, consisting of the following components: vehicle in motion, initial reference point and final reference point. The system is designed to detect the position of the moving vehicle in the scene and the position of the reference points and calculate the speed of each frame of static image from the detected positions. The detection of vehicle speed from a video frame system consists of six main components: 1) Acquisition of images, to collect a series of individual images from the video scene and store them in the temporary storage. 2) Image Enhancement, to enhance some unique image features in order to provide more accuracy and better future performance. 3) Image segmentation, to perform vehicle position detection by image differentiation. 4) Image analysis, to analyze the position of the initial reference point and the reference end point, using a threshold technique. 5) Speed detection, to calculate the speed of each vehicle in the frame of a single image using the position of the detection vehicle and the positions of the reference point, and 6) Inform, to transmit the information to the end user as readable information . The experimentation has been performed in order to evaluate three qualities: 1) Usability, to demonstrate that the system can determine the speed of the vehicle under the specific conditions established. 2) Performance, and 3) Effectiveness.
