The ultra-capacitor model has been developed in the PLECS toolbox. Experimental tests have been carried out in order to identify ultra-capacitor parameters. The Maxwell BCAP0310 cell (310 F) has been used in the study. The model is dynamic, ie it reflects the transient state of the ultra-capacitor voltage. More details on the ultra-capacitor model are presented in.
The parameterization of the model allows specifying an ultra-capacitor package with a defined number of cells in series or parallel.
The model is able to simulate the terminal voltage of the energy storage including the dependencies in the state of charge and temperature.
The studies made allow to suppose that the model adequately reflects the ultracondensador behaviour in the ranges of:
- temperature -5 ° C - 40 ° C
- cell voltage 0.5V - 2.7V
It is not possible to model pure variable resistors in PLECS, so a variable capacitive coupled resistor with very small capacitance has been used to model a resistance in series.
A super-capacitor is a high capacity capacitor with capacitance values much higher than other capacitors (but lower voltage limits) bridging the gap between electrolytes. A super-capacitor (double layer electric capacitor (EDLC), also called super-cap, ultra-capacitor or Goldcap) Capacitors and rechargeable batteries. Normally they store 10 to 100 times more energy per unit volume or mass than electrolytic capacitors, they can accept and deliver the load much faster than the batteries and tolerate many more cycles of charge and discharge than rechargeable batteries.
Super-capacitors are used in applications that require many quick loading / unloading cycles instead of long-term compact energy storage: inside cars, buses, trains, cranes and elevators, where they are used for regenerative braking, short-term energy storage Term or power supply in burst mode. Smaller drives are used as memory backup for static random access memory (SRAM).
