ABSTRACT

These days mass VoIP deployment occurs through the IP-network. deployment of VoIP is a difficult task for the network of researchers and engineers. This article is a detailed modeling approach for a successful VoIP deployment. Simulation uses OPNET network simulator. OPNET recently gained considerable popularity both in academia and industry, but there is no formal or known approach or methodology of how OPNET can be used to assess the support and readiness to the existing network in the deployment of VoIP. Our approach and work presented in this paper to predict, prior to purchase and deployment of VoIP equipment, the number of VoIP calls that can be supported by the existing network, meeting the QoS requirements of all network services and leaving sufficient capacity for future growth. In the example, we use modeling approach to the typical small business network. The article provides a detailed description of models for modeling the topology and components using OPNET network. The paper describes the modeling and representation of background traffic and VoIP, as well as various configuration modeling. In addition, the paper examines the many issues of design and engineering related to the deployment of VoIP. These issues include the characteristics of VoIP traffic and QoS requirements, VoIP flow and call distribution, determination of future growth potential, as well as the dimension and impact of background traffic.
