The catalysis (/ kətælᵻsᵻs /) is the increase of the speed of a chemical reaction due to the participation of an additional substance called catalyst (/ kætᵻlᵻst /). In most cases, the reactions occur more quickly with a catalyst because they require less activation energy. Further, since they are not consumed in the catalyzed reaction, the catalysts can continue to act repeatedly. Often only minimal quantities are required in principle.
