Non-destructive testing or non-destructive testing is a broad group of analysis techniques used in the science and technology industry to evaluate the properties of a material, component or system without causing damage. The terms non-destructive examination (NDE), nondestructive inspection (NDI) and nondestructive evaluation (NDE) are also commonly used to describe this technology.   Because NDT does not permanently alter the item being inspected, it is a very valuable technique that can save money and time on product evaluation, problem solving and research. Common NDT methods include ultrasound, magnetic particles, liquid penetrates, radio graphs, remote visual inspection (RVI), eddy current tests, and low coherence interferometry. The END is commonly used in forensic engineering, mechanical engineering, petroleum engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, systems engineering, aeronautical engineering, medicine and art. Innovations in the field of nondestructive testing have had a profound impact on medical imaging, including echocardiography, medical ultrasound, and digital radiography.
