The parents of class 10 are rattled by the blaring election campaigns of political parties in various parts of the city. The political parties have started canvassing for votes for the Lok Sabha elections by installing sound boxes in polling booths, door-to-door campaigns and public meetings.

The parents particularly find the noise pollution caused by the sound boxes installed in several polling booths distracting their children’s study.

S. Amudha, a resident of Sundaram Street in Purasawalkam, said that during the past one week her son has not been able to concentrate in his studies because the sound boxes placed by political parties in her street switch on film songs every evening. Though she ha filed several complaints regarding this issue, Ms. Amudha is baffled by the silence of the government authorities in tackling this nuisance. Doctors say sound boxes and loud speakers add to the noise pollution levels.
