A Data Flow Diagram (DFD) is a diagram that describes the flow of data and processes that change or transform data across a system. The data flow diagram reviews the current physical system, prepares the input and output specification, specifies the implementation plan, etc. Four basic symbols are used to construct data flow diagrams. They are symbols representing the data source, the data flows, the data transformations and the data storage. The points at which the data are transformed are represented by closed figures, usually circles, which are called nodes.
A Student Attendance Monitoring System (SAMS) is being developed to provide a reliable, safe and efficient method of recording student attendance. The project involves two phases of IT development. The first part involves the development of SAMS within SAP Lifecycle Management (SLcM) and integration with Syllabus Plus and a scanning solution. It also includes the development of a student absence notice form in line with the document management and workflow appropriate for the approval and updating of the attendance record. SAP Business Warehouse will be used to produce absence reports including the incorporation of records available in other systems (e-Portfolio and Blackboard) to allow a complete report of attendance. The second part of the project is the collection of attendance data in class.
