Selling seasonal items online works the same way as online retailing. The time of the off-season is to prepare for the sales period. To take full advantage of the overwhelming demand for seasonal staples. India is a land of several cultures as well as seasons therefore different types of foods, vegetables and fruits can be found at different times. Despite this great dish, one should know when and what to eat to get effective results. Eating seasonal foods is the best way to stay healthy, as there is a variation in the nutrient content of vegetables or fruits when harvested out of season.

According to the Indian climate, there are usually five seasons: spring, summer, monsoon, fall and winter.

1. Spring Season Foods

Spring is the season of life, prosperity and wealth. Eating easily digestible food during this season is a better way to stay healthy and fit. Foods, which contain grains such as barley, rye, millet, buckwheat and wheat, can be consumed. Some of the spring season foods with benefits are as follows:

Radish: Radish is enriched with fiber, vitamin C, potassium, magnesium, copper, calcium and manganese. It prevents viral infections, eliminates toxins, protects against cancer, relieves indigestion and keeps you hydrated.

Peas: Peas have a sweet taste and starchy texture and contain a unique assortment of phyto-nutrient health protectors. Peas are nutritious and low in fat. They also come with anti-inflammatory benefits.

Spring onions: Spring onions are a good source of vitamin C, chrome and dietary fiber. They help reduce blood glucose levels, protect against cancer, especially ovarian cancer and help destroy worms and other parasites in the stomach.

Spinach: Spinach is a good source of vitamin C. It facilitates constipation and protects the mucus lining of the stomach so that one can remain free of ulcers. It also cleanses the toxins from the colon.

Papaya: Papaya is low in calories and high in nutritional values. It helps in preventing constipation and helps in digestion, lowers blood cholesterol levels and also helps control premature aging.

2. Summer season foods

The summer season or the "greeshma" ritu is extremely hot so restoring liquids that are lost in sweat is very important. Concentrating on water and cold drinks like buttermilk can help keep the body fresh. Maintaining the proper moisture level is essential. Mango rose, petal jams rose are also ideal drinks for the season. Black tulsi seeds, if added to any fresh drink will be delicious as well as refreshing. Some of the summer season foods with benefits are as follows:

Mango: The mango that is considered as the "king of fruits" is loaded with several health benefits. It reduces cholesterol, acts as a skin cleanser, maintains healthy eyes, prevents diabetes, improves digestion, prevents heat stroke and boosts the immune system. It also protects against cancers of the colon, breast, leukemia and prostate.

Watermelon: Watermelon contains a lot of water. It is very nutritious and can increase energy.

Lychee: This fruit is a good source of vitamin C and vitamin B. Lychee is also a good source of potassium, an electrolyte that helps maintain fluid balance, contract muscles and control blood pressure.

Bitter cottage: Reduces blood glucose levels, reduces carbohydrate digestion in the diet, reverses insulin resistance and prevents diabetic complications. It can also protect the body from other noncommunicable diseases

Ladies Finger or Bhindi: It contains no calories and is enriched with dietary fiber which is important for the digestive system. Bhindi also helps fight against diabetes.

3. Food items from the monsoon season

Monsoon means rainy season therefore the climate is wet, soggy and humid. Moisture weakens digestion so special care must be taken during the monsoon season. Grains such as barley and wheat and the meat of "janagal desha" animals should be consumed in sufficient quantities. Warm water should be consumed. Milk, ghee and plain butter can also be taken. Fish from lakes, which are fatty, can be consumed. An important component of the diet during the rainy season should be honey. Some of the monsoon season foods with benefits are as follows:

Peach: The peach is rich in phytochemicals. Keeps skin healthy and reduces hair loss. It can also help eliminate worms from the intestines.

Plum: Plum is very low in saturated fats, cholesterol and sodium. It is also a good source of dietary fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C and K.

4. Fall Season Food Items

Autumn or 'sharad ritu' is the season in which you should take in lots of sunlight to avoid mood swings that come during the winter season. In this season, the diet should consist of sweet, light bitter and light foods. Grains such as barley, ragi and wheat can be consumed. Oily foods can also be eaten like animals with oily meat. Warm drinks can be taken throughout the day. In the evening you can eat tea made with cumin seeds. Before going to bed it is best to consume hot milk with few threads of saffron. Some of the fall season foods with benefits are:

Beet: Beet is loaded with several benefits. It defeats osteoporosis, keeps diabetes under control, treats anemia, helps relieve fatigue, overcomes constipation and keeps the stomach healthy and boosts brain power.

Brinjal / Eggplant: Brinjal is a rich source of fiber and low soluble carbohydrates. Helps create iron in the human body, facilitates weight loss and aids in digestion.

Cabbage: Cabbage is a good source of vitamin C. It is useful in the treatment of ulcers, certain types of cancer and depression. Cabbage can accelerate the healing process of damaged wounds and tissues, regulate the proper functioning of the nervous system and reduce the effects and presence of Alzheimer's disease.

Cauliflower: Cauliflower consumption helps maintain heart and cardiovascular system. It also helps in lowering cholesterol levels.

Tomato: Tomato is a rich source of antioxidants like vitamin C and vitamin A. It provides protection against high cholesterol, strokes and heart disease. It also helps in building strong bones and fighting various cancers, including prostate, cervical, stomach, rectal, prostate and ovarian cancer.

5. Winter Season Food
Along with a pleasant climate, the winter welcomes several vegetables and fruits with varied health benefits. But winter is a down time as a result the human metabolism slows down. It is important to conserve energy and strengthen strength by eating the right seasonal foods. Some of them are:

Apples: Biting and chewing an apple stimulates the production of saliva in the mouth, reducing tooth decay by decreasing levels of bacteria. It also keeps Alzheimer's away, reduces the risk of diabetes, reduces cholesterol, prevents gallstones, neutralizes irritable bowel syndrome, controls weight, detoxifies the liver and prevents cataracts.

Oranges: Orange is enriched with vitamin C and is low in calories. Orange is able to fight off germs.

Carrots: This root vegetable has a good level of carotene. Carrot is also a good source of vitamins B, C, D, E and K, as well as calcium pectate.

Mustard Leaves: Mustard leaves are highly nutritious and a good source of several vital antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and carotenes.

Fenugreek leaves: Fenugreek leaves are enriched with vitamins, minerals, fiber and phytonutrients. It can lower cholesterol and help keep diabetes under control.
