Circuit breakers are crucial components for the operation of the power system. The currently adapted time-directed maintenance strategy and emerging new condition-based strategy require a flexible information processing technique and software architecture. In this document, mobile agent software has been applied in the implementation of maintenance and repair tasks for circuit breakers. The benefits of using the mobile agent techniques are discussed at the end.
Circuit breakers are crucial components for power system operations. They have an important role in switching for routine network operation and protection of other devices in electrical systems. To ensure that circuit breakers are in good condition, periodic inspections and preventive maintenance are normally performed. Maintenance schedules and routines generally follow the vendor's recommendation for circuit-breakers, although recommended programs may be conservative.
New techniques and maintenance methodologies are emerging, while breakers continue to improve in their designs and functions. As an example, some new circuit breakers have integrated monitoring instruments available to measure coil current profiles and operating time. The recorded information can be used to monitor the condition of the switches during each operation. In this case, it may be more appropriate to replace time-directed maintenance with directed maintenance practice.
