INTRODUCTION TO INDUSTRY
The term "information technology" came about in the 1970s. Its basic concept, however, can be traced back even further. Throughout the 20th century, an alliance between the military and various industries has existed in the development of electronics, computers, and information theory. The military has historically driven such research by providing motivation and funding for innovation in the field of mechanization and computing.
The first commercial computer was the UNIVAC I. It was designed by J. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly for the U.S. Census Bureau. Since then, four generations of computers have evolved. Each generation represented a step that was characterized by hardware of decreased size and increased capabilities. The first generation used vacuum tubes, the second used transistors,the third integrated circuits, and the fourth used integrated circuits on a single chip. The late 70s saw the rise of microcomputers, followed closely by IBM’s personal computer in 1981. Today, the term Information Technology has ballooned to encompass many aspects of computing and technology and the term is more recognizable than ever before. The Information Technology umbrella can be quite large, covering many fields. IT professionals perform a variety of duties that range from installing applications to designing complex computer networks and information databases.
The growth and development of information and communication technologies (ICTs) has led to their wide diffusion and application, thus increasing their economic and social impact.The information technology (IT) industry has become of the most robust industries in the world. IT, more than any other industry or economic facet, has an increased productivity, particularly in the developed world, and therefore is a key driver of global economic growth. Economies of scale and insatiable demand from both consumers and enterprises characterize this rapidly growing sector.
The Information Technology Association of America (ITAA) explains 'information technology' as encompassing all possible aspects of information systems based on computers.
Both software development and the hardware involved in the IT industry include everything from computer systems, to the design, implementation, study and development of IT and management systems.
Owing to its easy accessibility and the wide range of IT products available, the demand for IT services has increased substantially over the years. The IT sector has emerged as a major global source of both growth and employment.
Features of the IT Industry at a Glance
• Economies of scale for the information technology industry are high. The marginal cost of each unit of additional software or hardware is insignificant compared to the value addition that results from it.
• Unlike other common industries, the IT industry is knowledge-based.

About The Project:-
The project titled Online Library Management System is Library management software
for monitoring and controlling the transactions in a library .The project “Online Library Management System” is developed in java, which mainly focuses on basic operations in a library like adding new member, new books, and updating new information, searching books and members and facility to borrow and return books. “Library Management System” is a windows application written for 64-bit Windows operating systems, designed to help users maintain and organize library.The report generation facility of library system helps to get a good idea of which are the books borrowed by the members, makes users possible to generate reports’ hard copy.
The software Library Management System has four main modules.
• Insertion to Database Module – User friendly input screen
• Extracting from Database module – Attractive Output Screen
• Report Generation module – borrowed book list & Available book list
• Search Facility system – search for books and members
PROPOSED SYSTEM
Proposed system is an automated Library Management System. Through our software user can add members, add books, search members, search books, update information, edit information, borrow and return books in quick time. Our proposed system has the following advantages.
