Why DSPs?

Essentially DSP is a microprocessor specialized for signal processing applications.
It performs complex mathematical operations on real time signals.
On signal processing tasks, DSPs overtake GPPs from 2 to 3 order in speed.
DSP processors use special architectures to accelerate repetitive, numerically intensive calculations involved in signal processing
