Motor Operated Valve (MOV) is an important element of the Plant & Piping system. These valves are usually large and are used for various applications such as the pump reject of etc. Motor operated valves are often called as valves On-Off engines are used to fully open or completely close the valves in the pipes. For example, the cooling water pipes, the processing pipelines where fluid control is not needed, the engine valves running can be used to allow fully or stop the flow entirely. These valves are not used for limitation purposes because they are used mainly On-Off service application.
Motorized operating valves can be of different types, e.g. Gate / ball / Butterfly etc. with the control of the actuator. The design of engines and valves may be different. An electric motor is mounted on the valve and oriented towards the valve stem so that when the engine is running, the valve open or close. For this MOV, the engine works with the control of the actuator from the local panel or from the control room is required. It is a requirement of coordination between the engineers Piping-electrical-Instrumentation-process and provider for the design and supply of these valves in engine running.
