Ahmedabad Mill Strike
*Ahmedabad mill strike was the first hunger strike performed by Gandhiji in India.
*It took place in Ahmedabad in 1918.
*It was organised by Gandhiji to resolve the conflict between textile mill owners and their workers in Ahmedabad.
*Gandhiji asked the workers to go Qn strike and demanded 35% increase in wages.
*He undertook a fast unto death to strengthen the worker’s resolve and finally mill owners agreed workers demand.
Khilafat Movement-1919
*The main objective ofKhilafat movement was to force the British government to change its attitude towards Turkey and to restore the Turkish Sultan to his former position.
*Muhammad Ali, Shaukhat Ali, Hakkim Ajmalkhan, Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, Hazrat Mohani etc. were the main leaders of Khilafat Committee.
*All India Khilafat Conference was held at Lucknow in September 1919.
*A joint conjunction of the Hindus & Muslims was constrained under the chairmanship of Mahatma Gandhi on November 23, 1919.
*The policy of non-violence and non-co-operation were used in India for the first time in the Khilafat Movement.
*Gandhiji saw in this movement, vast possibilities of achieving Hindu-Muslim unity and a joint front against British imperialism." .
*Central Khilafat Committee organised an All India Harthal under the guidance of Gandhiji.
*The Khilafat Movement came to an end when Mustafa Kamal Pasha dethroned the Turkish Sultan and declared Turkey as a secular state.
Rowlatt Act -1919
*In 1919 Rowlatt Committee was formed under justice Rowlatt. The committee was formed with an objective to curb the revolutionary activities.
*The official name of Rowlatt Act was Anarchical and Revolutionary Crimes Act.
*Rowlatt Act was passed on 6th February 1919
*Gandiji called Rowlatt Act as ‘The Black Act’.
*The Rowlatt act empowered theBritish govt, to arrest any person without reason, search any place without warrant and imprison anyone without trial.
