You can visit the Victoria Memorial in Calcutta at any time during the year. It is beautifully appointed gardens and lakes, and the Memorial Museum has all in it hosting historical relics, used by the people of that time.
In front of the front gate of Victoria Memorial, you will find a beautifully decorated vintage horse drawn carriages like those and you've seen the 2009 movie Sherlock Holmes. They are widely known as "Tanga" and the person driving it is called "Tangawallas". They will give you a ride from 15 to 20 minutes, usually through the red Road (the main road Nearby the Victoria Memorial) and will ask for a price of INR 100 per INR 200. Between you should haggle with them to get a good price.
Victoria Memorial Hall has a total Lake area of the beautifully decorated gardens or wander where YOU CAN sit, you can take your family for the day. No one is going to ask you.
You have to buy separate tickets for the garden and for visiting the Museum.

Just next to the Memorial Garden, Victoria is the Calcutta Maidan, a huge area of lush green trees and open fields. It was under the Indian army and is a strategic point for the army in case of war or emergency is any situation.
Fort William is strategically located next to the independence square with a huge army presence around him. It's like visiting a nice Calcutta Maidan is open to all during the year, and a lot of people and sports players around town to visit him every day.
