Near Field Communication
#1

Ever since the commercialization of the mobile phones there had been a rapid growth in wireless communication. The first mobile phones were not much sophisticated-in a sense that they were used only for conversation. As customer demands grew researchers all over the world began to think of incorporating more facilities to the mobile phones. Audio &video storage and display facilities were added. Another enhancement was digital cameras incorporated in the mobile phones. With the advent of these features a large amount of data had to be transmitted from the mobile phones or PDA’s to the Computer system or other storage areas. So many new protocols were developed for achieving this high data rates. Near field communication is one such a protocol with high safety & security for the data transmitted.
With the growing demand for a myriad of small, battery powered personal devices such as mobile phones, PDA’s, and portable audio players, near field magnetic communication is ideal for cutting the cord in such applications. Magnetic communication offers significant power, cost, and size advantages over RF. It also offers inherently more security and better inter-operability on account of its physical roll-off and attenuation properties –attributes well suited to mobile and high user density applications.NFC provides an easy, touch-based access to services and content. With the NFC enabled mobile phones or PDA’s for payment and ticketing, the consumer can conduct local transactions simply by touching a point of sales device or ticket gate. Consumer’s payment credentials, such as debit and credit cards, and transport tickets are securely stored in the integrated smart card chip of the NFC enabled device. NFC enabled payment and ticketing is compliant and interoperable with contact less smart card infrastructure. Hence additional investments are not required.
