To generate electrical energy, it is essential to rotate the rotor of an alternator by means of a primary motor. The main engine can be driven by different methods. Using the diesel engine as a main engine is one of the popular methods of generating power. When the main engine of the alternators is the diesel engine, the power plant is called a diesel power station. The mechanical energy required to drive the alternator comes from the combustion of diesel. As diesel costs high, this type of plant is not suitable for producing large scale energy in our country. But for small-scale production of electric power, and where, there are no other readily available alternatives to producing electrical power, the diesel power plant is used. Steam power plants and hydroelectric power plants are mainly used to produce most of the electrical charge demands. But for the steam power station, sufficient supply of coal and water are needed.

For the hydroelectric plant, many water sources and large dams are needed. But where all these facilities are not available, as there is no easy way to transport coal and there is no scope of dam construction, there is diesel plant is established. Diesel power plants are also popularly used as a source of waiting for various industries, commercial complexes, hospitals, etc. During power outage, these diesel power generators are operated to meet the required demand.

Advantages of the Diesel Power Plant

1. This is simple from a design point of view.
2. Very small space required.
3. It can also be designed for portable use.
4. It has fast starting facility, small diesel generator set can be started in a few seconds.
5. You can also stop like when you require the small size stop of the diesel power plant, even easier than it is starting
6. Since these machines can be easily started and stopped when necessary, there may be no loss of reserve in the system.
7. Cooling is easy and requires less water at this power station.
8. The initial cost is lower than other types of power plants.
9. The thermal efficiency of diesel is much higher than that of coal.
