Accurate load forecasts are critical to effective operations and planning of utilities. The forecast of the load influences a number of decisions, including generators to be committed for a given period, and sharply affects the wholesale prices of the electricity market. Load and price prediction algorithms also tend to play a prominent role in low-priced hybrid models for the price of electricity, which are some of the most accurate models for simulating markets and modeling energy derivatives. The price forecast for electricity is also widely used by market participants in many commercial and risk management applications. Power companies rely on accurate electricity load forecasts to minimize financial risk and optimize operational efficiency and reliability.
Critical load forecasting tasks include:
• Automation of access to data of the regional wholesale electricity markets
• Customization of models using non-parametric, non-parametric regression techniques and neural networks
• Calibration of models with historical predictions such as time, seasonality, load, fuel price and energy price
• Implementation and integration of load forecasting algorithms in enterprise systems
