GSM Based DA/DR System using I2C & UART Protocol
#1

[attachment=14152]
ABSTRACT
I2C is a serial interchip communication protocol used for data transfer between chips developed by Philips in order over come the drawback of PCB complexity due to parallel communication which requires 8 pin interface between the chips with the I2C protocol this 8 pins can be reduced to only 2 lines one is data line and one is clock line.
Many devices such RTC, EEPROM, Temperature sensor etc will come with inbuilt I2C engine which helps in reducing the consumption of micro controller pins which is got through I2C protocol, with the help of I2C protocol we can interface 128 devices with only two line of the micro controller now for our demo purpose we are going to interface 3 devices with different address.
The GSM is a Global System for mobile communication. Using GSM module in which we can control and access the device through the SMS (Short Message Service). In this sms contains keywords or device accessing/control instructions (code). Only those who knows device password will be able to control the device through sms.
INTRODUCTION
1.1. General Introduction :

Over the years remote control techniques have been implemented in many different fields for a variety of different applications. We have remote controlled televisions, audio systems and other consumer electronic appliances. Then there are remote controls in the new generation cars for door locking. But all these devices have the limitations that their area of operation is confined to a certain range. If the remote control is out of this range then it ceases to operate in its expected manner. This is because the commonly used remote controls have power constraints. But in many cases it becomes necessary to have a greater range of operation and control.
But in our system we overcome this drawback of range limitation or distance limitation by using GSM TECHNOLOGY as the channel for controlling devices at a longer distance.
1.2. Statement of Study :
The aim of the project is to design a system which can be used for the purpose of controlling electrical appliance at home from even long distances, thus overcoming the problem of distance limitation. Also we need the status of the AC mains power and the status of the electrical appliance to be sent to the mobile.
1.3. Literature Survey :
There exists a number of available media for remote communication. Internet is a good example of this type of remote communication. Internet places virtually no bounds on geographical placement and is thus considered “enough” remote by our definition.
But the Internet is a place crowded with various types of traffics, often hostile to each other. Security vulnerability is the most striking alert point of the Internet. Whenever a web based application goes live, a lot of efforts have to take place before it can be said to be secured, if at all.
When we say remote control, we want to make sure no malicious party ever gains control and abolishes everything. Also to use web, it requires resources like flawless internet connections and hosting servers, which may not always fit to the concept of remote controlling.
Another candidate for the solution to this remote communication problem is the use of mobile telephony. Mobile telephony offers a wide range of communication services like voice and data transfer through SMS at a relatively low price and at a wide variety of places on the earth. This sort of high end technology is supposed to facilitate the different life easing utilities to a new age and bringing things out of the box to as near as one’s palm.
On the other hand, the security is better achieved by the use of strict traffic control. We adhered to this method of remote controlling of home appliances because of its unparallel availability and modest security at the affordable price.
1.3.1. Mobile Telephony :
In telecommunication, telephony encompasses the general use of equipment to provide voice communication over distances, specifically by connecting telephones to each other.
The term mobile telephony is derived from original telephony to denote the communication that facilitates mobility using wireless technology.
Mobile telephony offers services like voice and data transfer. Data transfer is done using SMS and some other enhanced data rate services.
Short Message Service (SMS) is a telecommunications protocol that allows the sending of short text messages. It is available on most digital mobile phones and some personal digital assistants with onboard wireless telecommunications.
Devices such as computer and microcontroller which can connect to mobile phones and PDAs through protocols such as Bluetooth and AT command can also sometimes send SMS messages using the mobile phones. The usability of this type of SMS can be used in the controller we wish to design.
